Review: Go Flying Tigers/Flying Tigers through Lee College
Program is loosely administered through Lee College. Beginning students are not given a syllabus and informed of what to expect. We were lead to believe there was a fixed cost through the Lee College Program for a huge number of flight hours when discussing the program with the guy over the program; which "are pretty much impossible to fly due to weather" in the area per this person.
There is not a fixed program as it turns out! There is a discounted rental and ground school at the airport. Ground school is basically free while enrolled in Lee, which is nice. Ads at the time showed plane rental from $85 for the college students. One plane was charged out at $85 - usually it was unavailable. The rest of the planes were $100 and above after the discount. During the last month of the semester, over half of the planes were unavailable due to maintenance. Those who were unable to schedule lost the discount with the new semester despite not being able to finish due to the lack of planes.
Although it seemed it should be a given if you are pursing the private pilot license through a college that you are enrolling for the part 141 course, the flight school has no way to make sure the instructors are following part 141 with the students. It is apparently the students responsibility to know what the syllabus for part 141 is supposed to be and it is the student's responsibility to make sure the right syllabus is followed.
The flight instructor was nice and a good instructor but in the end, we paid for way more than the advertising lead us to believe and were hosed out of the part 141 licensing. A critical issue when pursing an aviation science degree.
