The best school I have been to. FAA approved flight school. Great and friendly staff. I just got my Instrument rating and looking forward to start my multi engine training.

Review: The best Flight School at Van Nuys
I have gone to several different flight school before picking Encore Flight for my Private and Instrument rating. They have one of the best flight simulators around, it has a fully enclosed cockpit with an actual Garmin 430 GPS. All of their airplanes are GPS equipped and in very good shape. Their course is also approved by FAA, since they are a FAA approved Flight School.

Review: Maintenance and Business practices
After flying at few schools for a few ratings I came to Encore for a simple add on rating, I figured a school that operates from the legendary Van Nuys airport cant be all that bad lol

First off the owner appears to spend more money on his outfits and his car then the aircraft he charges people to fly!

One of the planes was loosing oil, about 4qt in a cross-country.

Second the logs were not in order, work had been done on this aircraft that was not reflected in the logs, for those of you who dont know what that means, THIS AIRCRAFT WAS NOT LEGALLY AIRWORTHY (PER FAR part 43), I (as well as others) were scheduled to FLY this aircraft!!!, others had already flown in this plane. This shows that the management of this "school" are ok risking the FAA violating their students and instructors!

Also I had 2 training flights in my log book before I ASKED them if they should to make a copy of my passport and license (a TSA requirement BEFORE someone starts training, that they just overlook)

To makes thing even better, I overheard the owner try to sell a prospective student on going from 0hrs to Commercial in a 56 day "fast track"....yea

This is a great example of what happens when you take people that should be selling used cars and put them in charge of a flight training operation.

Unless you enjoy engine failures and FAA violations, better choose another place!

*I gave the "Instruction & Ground School" a 8, as some of their instructors are great and know their stuff, lets hope they jump ship before the FAA gets involved or worse someone gets killed
