Mazzei
Do not start at mazzei between october and february. It is located in the center of california which suffers from fog for those three months grounding private students. Overall the instructors are very nice and willing to help out. Aircraft mostly are in good shape for being 30-40 years old. No glass cockpit, all steam guages except for a couple garmin 430's Expect things to go wrong and the occasional flight cancelled. Maybe 3 to 4 times a month you will run into problems such as a radio issues, burnt out lights, or other maintenance issues you will notice when you go to preflight. I dont know of any mechanical failures ever in the history of the school so i always felt safe flying. Mostly just the little things that get overlooked by their on site maintenance staff that are annoying. Price is fair but when u go make sure to take an extra 10-15 percent funds. The courses are billed as MINIMUM which seems to confused a lot of people. Not everyone is a 35 hour private pilot. In fact when i went no one was. Its quite a short time to learn the amount of information. I wish that fact was made a little more apparent. The owner Jim B. is a nice enough fellow but runs around like hes always just a little bit too busy to talk to anyone. He is running a buisness do not forget that. Jeb G will be the person you would go to about anything you need to discuss and he is great willing to help you out when needed. Pattie B deals with housing and TSA, things of that nature. If you need anything done by her prepare to make 3 or 4 contacts before its accoplished. Overall the facilities are nice. There is a classroom and room for briefings and studying. Housing is nice enough for 8 months to a year of living. Its close by about a mile or so. The recruiting is done by Jerry. When you talk to him tone down what he says by about 20 percent just as you would from any salesman. He doesnt come around alot works from home so im not too sure he really knows too much about anything. good luck with mazzei i know if you finish your training there it will definitly make you prepared and confident in your skills. |
